Meet Our Attorneys
Our firm was founded in 2006 to help clients more efficiently and economically address their mineral-related issues. We’ve grown to service a tri-state area, serving clients in Wyoming, North Dakota, and Montana with respect to all aspects of real property.
Our core principles are simple: be accessible to our clients, and provide efficient, practical legal advice and work product.
Scotti was born and raised on a cattle ranch in Eastern Montana. Working alongside her parents, grandparents, and four siblings, she was exposed to both the on-the-ground and the business aspects of owning and running a real property-based business from a young age. She went to college (B.S. in business administration) and law school at the University of Wyoming. She began her career at a large Montana firm but knew immediately that big firm life wasn’t for her. She left the firm in 2006 to found Gray and Johnson, which later became Gray, Johnson & Lebsock. Her practice includes mineral and surface title examination and disputes, regulatory compliance, and real property transactions and issues.
Darin grew up in northeast Montana on a small farm/ranch. Upon graduation from Gonzaga Law, he began his career in oil and gas law at a large regional firm. In 2006, Darin and Scotti founded their own firm, later adding Matt Lebsock as a partner. With an eye toward accessibility and practicality, Darin’s practice includes title examination, transactions, regulatory compliance, and other real property issues.
Matt was born and raised in Billings, Montana, and keeps busy raising two sons and a daughter with his wife, Carley. Matt's practice centers on title examination for drilling, division order, right of way, and acquisition/divestiture purposes.

Drilling & Division Order Title Opinions
We are well-versed in examining title materials and preparing an easy-to-understand Title Opinion in a format designed to integrate with your in-house team of title and division order analysts. We have rendered title opinions covering scores of spacing units throughout North Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming.

​Acquisitions and Sales of Oil and Gas Properties
From due diligence and contract negotiations through closing, we are experienced in all aspects of the sale process. When assisting clients with the purchase and sale of oil and gas properties, we work to streamline the process and safeguard your interests.​

Regulatory Compliance
We provide representation for oil and gas clients with respect to spacing, permitting, and administrative compliance matters. We have assisted operators in obtaining temporary and permanent spacing units, change of operator requests for existing wells, exception locations, and forced pooling orders.

Curative (Probate, Deeds, and Stipulations)
In addition to preparing deeds and stipulations that cure complex title defects so that the right parties can be put into "pay" status, we also help our clients with analyzing and cleaning up ownership issues prior to or during lease negotiations.

​Surface Ownership Issues and Negotiations
We negotiate surface-use agreements, pipeline rights of way, saltwater disposal agreements, and other agreements that arise during oil and gas exploration, development, and production.
